Description:Last update to the Cathedral before South by Southwest. Never say I'm not open to suggestion. I think the changed door peak looks great, though it is now one stud taller. I was able to find enough clips to do the three peaks over the three large doors, I'll have to order the parts to do the peaks over the small doors. As much as I was afraid it'd be too "fancy" for my design, I don't think it looks out of place.

Description:The Target in the NewPark mall, Newark (in California) finally came through for me today! The Fremont Hub Target (my most favorite Target) didn't have any of these, but the NewPark mall one did! I picked up two of each; one pair to open, and one pair to keep mint. :) (There were about 15+ of each set at the NewPark mall Target, by the way) Also, there was a Borders near the Fremont Hub Target, so I decided to check for LEGO there. There I found quite a large amount of sets (for a bookstore). There were sets like Woody's Roundup!, the Ben 10 sets, and some of the $25 LEGO Star Wars sets, all at MSRP. I'll have to look around for coupons... :)

Description:In the Second Galactic War, the Centuri Worlds constructed massive ringed colonies to specialize for the war effort. Among the few dozen that existed, one in particular acquired notoriety above all others. Sabota was a mining facility to extract resources from a derelict artifact dated around the destruction of Earth. However, its workers soon fell ill within the mines. A decision was made to import POWs to substitute for the labor. Things did not go well for them. In the mines surrounding the biospheres, few lived past six months and none survived for more than a year. For this, Sabota acquired the infamous name “The Death Ring.” The mere mention of it will bring most new captives into cooperation, for the notion of being sent to The Sabota Death Ring meant a certain and most agonizing demise.

Description:My regular collaborator Lego Monster is currently working on a minifig scale model of USS Intrepid, a WW-II Essex class aircraft carrier. He has asked me to design the aircraft to go with it. The first I am working on is a TBF/TBM Avenger torpedo bomber. When I decided to build a US Navy Wildcat fighter a while ago, I considered building an Avenger, but decided against it because I feared there were too many features that I wouldn't be able to capture in minifig scale. Of course, those are exactly the sort of things I am running into now. The cockpit windows can open and a minifig will fit inside when they are, but not when they're closed. There's also no room for a figure in the gun turret or in the aft cockpit. I could probably come up with a solution for that, but the construction will become a lot more complicated. For a model to go on the aircraft carrier, however, none of that will really matter. One thing that I did get to work is the wing folding mechanism. That is important, because it will allow us to display Avengers both with their wings folded and wings spread. Obviously there still is a lot left to do. I didn't notice that I'd forgotten to add a row of blue cheese slopes along the side of the cockpit when I took the picture. One of the things I want to change compared to what I have so far is that I'd like to add a few cowling flaps to the front and change the shape a bit.

Description:She's certainly getting bigger... and heavier. Transporting her to South By Southwest this weekend will be interesting, but at least I had the presence of forethought enough to design her to split into four manageable chunks. When complete, I also plan to make the tops of the towers removable, which I hope I can store inside the nave. This is all I'm going to do before the show this weekend, except for adding the door roof peaks. I'll probably add them using the original design, and when I get back I'll look into the possibility of doing something different.
